Signs and Symptoms Contact your child's doctor if you notice any of the following: - An arm or leg is crooked, bent or twisted in an unusual way (called a visible deformity).
- Your child cannot move a joint or play in the next few days after an injury.
- There is pain and lots of swelling near or around a joint.
- Your child has pain that doesn't get better after holding ice on the area or giving an over-the-counter pain-reliever (such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen).
- The pain gets worse with time, not better.
- Your child wakes up from sleep with pain, especially for two or more nights in a row.
