Walk The Line

On March 17, 1975, the first doctor's strike against long working hours was held against 21 voluntary and municipal hospitals in New York City. The interns and residents were seeking a reduction in work hours, not to exceed 40 hours. In 1981, interns and resident physicians struck eight New York hospitals in protest of inadequate patient care. In June 1999, the American Medical Association voted to help doctors in the Philadelphia area to begin to bargain collectively, the first step toward unionization.
