Feeding Your Baby By the end of your pregnancy, you need to decide whether to breastfeed or use infant formula with your baby. Pediatricians and nutritionists strongly recommend that you breastfeed your baby for at least the first 4 to 6 months of life, and continue until 12 months, if at all possible. Breastfeeding takes time, patience and support, and some mothers cannot breastfeed their babies for medical reasons. Even if only done for a few weeks, breastfeeding is good for both mom and baby. If you choose not to breastfeed for medical or personal reasons, iron-fortified infant formulas are nutritionally complete. Formula is discussed below, but check with your doctor about which kind is best for your baby. Breastfeeding Formula-Feeding
